Adventure Beyond the Ordinary

From towering Andean peaks to wild rivers, desert dunes, and extraordinary high-altitude lakes, Peru offers unforgettable outdoor adventures.

Customizable outdoor experiences designed by our Cusco-based team for travel agencies and tour operators, with activity selection matched to each client's abilities.

Why Peru

From Pacific dunes to Andean waterways

Around Ica, coastal desert dunes create a striking setting for sandboarding. In the Sacred Valley, mountain roads and trails connect cultivated landscapes beneath the Andes.

The Urubamba, Apurímac and Chili rivers offer distinct rafting environments, from selected introductory sections to demanding canyon expeditions. Route choice depends on water levels, traveler experience and verified local operations.

Lake Titicaca and suitable Sacred Valley lakes add a quieter dimension where access and professional support are confirmed. Combine active days with trekking and nature experiences, allowing time for altitude, transfers and encounters with local communities.

Trade planning essentials

Ideal travelers
Active FIT travelers, couples and private groups; family participation depends on route-specific age and ability requirements.
Typical duration
Short activity sessions, half- or full-day outings, and multi-day adventures within longer Peru programs.
Key destinations
Ica, Cusco and the Sacred Valley, Apurímac, Arequipa and Colca, and selected locations around Lake Titicaca.
Seasonality
Andean land activities often favor the generally drier May–September period. River and lake suitability requires separate, current assessment; desert outings depend on heat and wind.
Activity level
Gentle scenic walks through to technical biking, demanding hiking and advanced whitewater; assess each component separately.
Altitude
Cusco is approximately 3,400 m and Puno approximately 3,800 m. Schedule acclimatization time before strenuous high-altitude activities.
Booking lead time
Request proposals early for specialist rafting, groups and Machu Picchu combinations; exact lead times depend on permits, tickets and verified operations.
Access and permits
Site entry, water access and activity permissions are subject to current official regulations; verify at time of booking.
Private and group suitability
Match route capacity, guide ratios, equipment inventory and support logistics to the passenger mix; split ability levels when appropriate.
Operational checks
Confirm operator credentials, equipment, briefings, age limits, emergency plans and weather cancellation terms. Clients should verify activity-specific insurance coverage with their insurer.
Rafting Across Peru

Choose the river section, not just the river

Peru's whitewater possibilities differ sharply by section, season and access. We shape rafting proposals around traveler ability and verified operations rather than assigning a single difficulty level to an entire river.

Urubamba River — Cusco
Selected sections may suit first-time rafters under appropriate conditions, while others require greater experience. Confirm the exact put-in, take-out, current classification and transfer plan.
Apurímac River — Southern Peru
Canyon expeditions can involve advanced whitewater and remote, multi-day logistics. Propose them only after specialist operator verification and review of technical, rescue and evacuation arrangements.
Chili River — Arequipa
A possible addition to an Arequipa stay, with section choice and suitability determined by current water conditions, guide assessment and verified local operations.

Publish river classifications only once verified for the selected section and expected conditions. Confirm qualified guides, helmets, appropriate personal flotation and thermal protection, recommended and minimum ages, fitness and swimming requirements, group size and safety cover. Seasonal water levels can change or cancel operations; travelers should check insurance exclusions for whitewater, altitude and evacuation. Technical expeditions are not suitable for every age or fitness level.

Practical information

Plan for Peru's terrain and distances

Altitude and pacing
Allow appropriate time in Cusco, Puno and highland approaches before demanding activities. Build gentler arrival days and route alternatives without making assumptions about individual altitude tolerance.
Machu Picchu connections
Secure tickets in advance and align the selected circuit and timed admission with trains or alternative authorized access, transfers and overnight arrangements. Requirements and restrictions are subject to current official regulations; verify at booking.
Transport and remote access
Ica generally requires road transfers from Lima. Southern Peru combinations may need domestic flights, long private transfers or multi-day road journeys; remote rafting needs additional access and evacuation planning, while lake programs may require boats.
Seasonal flexibility
Andean rains generally increase from November to March, but dry-season travel does not guarantee suitable river or lake conditions. Assess coastal heat and wind separately and retain non-water alternatives.
Responsible operation
Respect community access arrangements, cultural practices and protected environments. Plan fair working conditions for guides and porters where involved, carry out waste, minimize shoreline disturbance and never pursue wildlife for an encounter.

FAQs for travel professionals

Can these experiences operate privately or for groups?

Both formats can be considered, subject to verified local operations, equipment capacity and route suitability. Group size, guide ratios, ages and mixed abilities must be reviewed for each activity; these concepts do not imply scheduled departures.

How much can we customize, and who are these activities suitable for?

We can adjust route choice, activity intensity, duration, transfers and the balance of adventure and cultural time. Families, active seniors and beginners need individually selected options; advanced rafting and technical biking require appropriate experience and fitness. Related trekking and nature experiences can be incorporated after logistical review.

How early should we book, and what access requirements apply?

Start early for groups, specialist expeditions and programs including Machu Picchu. Exact lead times depend on tickets, transport and operator confirmation. Entry circuits, timed admissions, activity permissions and protected-area access are subject to current official regulations; verify at time of booking.

Are specialist guides and different languages available?

Qualified activity guides and professional supervision must be confirmed for the selected operation. Request the required language at proposal stage; specialist guiding in that language may need advance arrangements or additional language support. Do not assume an accompanying tour leader replaces a river or activity guide.

What is the best season, and can activities change?

Andean land activities often favor the generally drier May–September period, but rafting depends on the specific section and seasonal water levels. Wind, cold water, rainfall, heat and local access can affect paddling, cycling and desert outings. Changes or cancellations remain possible, so include suitable alternatives.

What safety and insurance information should agencies collect?

Share ages, relevant activity experience, swimming confidence, equipment needs and any requirements affecting participation. Before confirmation, review operator procedures, safety equipment, rescue and evacuation arrangements, restrictions and cancellation terms. Travelers should confirm with their insurer that the exact activities, altitude and any remote evacuation are covered.
